Winston (thinking): I want Florence to be in my life. I think we would have a good future together.
Winston (thinking): Right now, in the eyes of the law, she's an A.I.. A product. I know the government is working on it. I don't know how good of a job they're going to do.
Winston (thinking): I could stand losing her to another person. I'd be upset, but it would be her choice. What I couldn't stand is losing her to a government or corporation because of some stupid administrative decision.
